Queen’s Jubilee Youth Trust for Wivenhoe

In the year 2002 Laurence, who had been working with the Wivenhoe Youth Theatre, decided to set up a Trust to support young people in Wivenhoe who were interested in undertaking theatrical training but could not raise the required funds.  He invited me to join him as I wasn’t bad at raising money!  We embarked on 10 years of fundraising, organising sponsored walks, lunches, raffles, entertainment, anything we could think of that would encourage folks to join us and bring in money.  We were a small team but all had good friends who were willing to support us.  We raised several thousands of pounds annually and local youngsters (under 24) were encouraged to apply.  We also gave funds to our two local schools for projects.  It was great fun and brought joy to the youth of Wivenhoe.  Laurence’s memory in setting this up and all the effort that went into it will be remembered by all who benefitted and all those who contributed over the years.
